Hawks drop home opener to Sibley-Ocheyedan
Hartley-Melvin-Sanborn entertained Siouxland Conference member Sibley-Ocheyedan August 30 to open up the home schedule. The Hawks lost in three games by similar scores of 25-18, 25-20 and 25-18.
“Overall, I was very pleased with our effort against S-O,” said HMS head coach Cheryl Kroese. “We made some lineup changes and I was pleased with how the girls responded.”
The Generals produced 26 kills compared to 17 for HMS. Sibley-Ocheyedan’s attack efficiency number was .286, while the Hawks finished at .055. “Give credit to S-O as they did a great job of not letting a ball hit the ground,” said Kroese.
Jasmine Lux powered down eight of the HMS kills with Abby Kunzman and Emily Otto each contributing four kills. Frankie Mohni provided 14 set assists.
On the defensive side, Elise Haack made two solo blocks and also had 11 of the team’s 41 digs. Kunzman and Lux recorded two block assists. Mohni dug up eight General attacks while Kunzman and Abby Otto each came up with six digs.
The Hawks missed on 12 of their 57 serve attempts which figured to a serve efficiency of 79 percent. Individuals serving at 90 percent or better were Kaley Pearson (13-of-14) and Emily Mutombo (9-of-10).
