Congratulations to Hartley-Melvin-Sanborn High School choir student, Dawson Niichel.
He has achieved the prestigious honor of being selected for the 2021 Opus Honor Choir.
Opus is a state-wide honor choir in grades 5-9, sponsored by the Iowa Choral Directors Association. Four choirs of 180 voices each are chosen through an audition process. This year, over 2,100 auditions were submitted, and only 720 chosen. The audition criteria is singing a cappella and recording a scale, America, and a specific song excerpt according to the student’s grade level. Students who are accepted will learn additional music for the performance and will attend the festival on Thursday, November 18, 2021 at Iowa State University in Ames.
Dawson is a freshman and is directed by Kristi Wingert.
