Sanborn’s Railroad Days celebration is this week

Sanborn, it’s time to celebrate! Railroad Days, the 2022 edition, spans Friday, Saturday and Sunday July 22, 23 and 24 and is chock full of activities for young and old, and all those in-between. Those activities include fireworks Friday night, a parade Saurday morning, and later on Saturday a Sanborn Community School all-school reunion as well as a tractor and truck pull.
The events get started Friday morning with the Antique Tractor Ride. Tractors will line up on Profit Street and will move out at 9:00 a.m. Papa’s Smok’in Meat food truck will be stationed at Iowa Armory on the corner of Hwys 18 and 59 north beginning at 11:00 a.m. Make sure you wait your 30 minutes after eating before enjoying the free swimming at Sanborn Aquatic Center courtesy of Prins Insurance. Hours are 1:00-5:00 p.m. both Friday and Saturday. Also open Friday and Saturday from 1:00-4:00 p.m. is Yesterday’s Memories & Vander Haag’s Truck Museum at 106 Eastern Street. There is a $10 fee for entry but children 12 & under enter free.
From 3:00-6:00 p.m. on Friday Sanborn Savings Bank is hosting an Ice Cream Social in their lobby. Also entertaining is Sanborn Preservation Society with their Welcome Home Gathering from 4:00-6:00 p.m. at Carnegie Hall just off Main on West 2nd Street. It features music, beverages and hors d’oeuvres.
Commercial Chaos for a Cure will again be a part of Railroad Days, sponsoring events in conjunction with Tri-State Chapter and Vander Haag’s, Inc. On Friday night, beginning at 6:00 p.m. they are sponsoring bouncy houses and yard games at Profit Street. Beginning at 5:30 p.m. at Profit Street AMPI will be serving grilled cheese sandwiches until they are gone.
At dusk fireworks will go off from the corner of Profit Street and East 1st Street. They will be followed by a light show along Profit Street. Both are sponsored by the Commercial Chaos for a Cure partners. Downtown from 9:00 p.m.-1:00 a.m. Rails will be sponsoring a DJ: Stovetop Productions.
It’s goody time Saturday morning at the City Park shelter house as the Methodist Church will be holding a bake sale from 6:00-10:00 a.m. and the Masons’ Pancake Breakfast will run from 7:00-10:00 a.m.
Meanwhile at Miller Park, Sanborn Christian School is sponsoring its annual 5K Race/1 Mile Fun Run and Walk. Registration begins at 7:15 a.m. with the participants moving out at 8:00 a.m.
Also at 8:00 a.m. is registration for the Commercial Chaos Poker Run which begins at 9:00 a.m. The registration is at Vander Haag’s Truck Museum. The Golf Ball Roll sponsored by Kids Express Daycare and Learning Tree Preschool scheduled for Saturday morning has been postponed to a later date.
The parade starts at 10:30 a.m. It will begin at AMPI and move up Main Street. The parade turns west onto West 4th Street and continues until turning south on Prospect Street, concluding at the intersection with West 1st Street.
A flea market will be set up in the southwest corner of the City Park from 10:30 a.m-4:00 p.m. Also at the Park are face painting 11:00-4:00, Bounce Around Inflatables Noon-4:00 and a Cornhole Tournament beginning at 1:00 p.m.
There will be lunch opportunites around town sponsored by Sanborn Public Library, the Mi’Ono Club, Commercial Chaos partners and Iowa Armory which will have a Bounce House of its own. Dance Attack will be holding a Bake Sale at City Park.
Along Profit Street a Jake Brake Contest begins at 1:00 p.m. and Commercial Chaos is holding a raffle drawing at 2:30 p.m. Iowa Armory will have a Raffle Drawing at their location at 5:00 p.m.
Beginning at 4:00 p.m. Farmers Coop Society is sponsoring a Kids Pedal Pull at the HMS bus barn. At that same time the Commercial Chaos Tractor and Truck Pull begins, located at East 1st Street.
The Sanborn Community School all-school reunion will take place at the former Presbyterian Church building southeast of City Park. Entertainment begins at 5:00 p.m. with the banquet to follow. Tours of HMS Middle School will be available from 2:00-4:00 p.m.
City Park will be the location and dusk will be the time for Movie in the Park: “Sing 2” sponsored by Sanborn Hardware and Sanborn Park & Rec. The busy Saturday concludes on Main Street with the Rails Street Dance featuring Cojo & Co.
On Sunday Sanborn Fire Department will be serving an Omelet Breakfast at the Fire Station from 9:00 a.m.-1:00 p.m. Everyone is welcome at the Community Worship Service at City Park from 9:30-10:30 a.m.
