Sixth Grade Outdoor Classroom held

The O’Brien County Soil & Water Conservation District (SWCD) hosted the 55th O’Brien County 6th Grade Outdoor Classroom on September 7. The 6th grade students from Sanborn Christian, Hartley-Melvin-Sanborn, Sheldon Community, South O’Brien and their teachers along with chaperones spent the day at the Prairie Heritage Center.
They began their day with cookies, milk or juice sponsored by Western Iowa Dairy Alliance, Ken’s Feed Store, Nicholson & Edward Grain and the O’Brien County Soil & Water Conservation District.
Sessions included: Predator/Prey (Sarah Fiddelke of the Prairie Heritage Center), Fishing (Michael Sundall – Pheasants Forever), Spears (Luke Davison – PHC), Soil Health (Andrew Koehlmoos – NRCS), Nature Scavenger Hunt – (Kaarina Van Berkum – Sioux County State Technician), Prairie Life (Kerisa Pingel – Sanford Museum), Water Olympics (Riley White – NRCS), Furs (Lindsey Kleinhesselink – Prairie Heritage Naturalist) and Bees (Philip Westra – Sanborn Christian Reformed Church).
The O’Brien County SWCD wants to give a special thank you to the Prairie Heritage Center for the wonderful surroundings and for the great job they did helping put this day together! SWCD would also like to thank the schools and their students, instructors, and chaperones and guests, and the Sponsors for making the 55th Outdoor Classroom a successful day!
