Despite early lead HMS boys fall to Wolves


Hartley-Melvin-Sanborn, in trying to begin 2024 with its first win of the season, led Harris-Lake Park 12-10 after one quarter. Then the Wolves’ scoring picked up while the HMS points tailed off. In the end, Harris-Lake Park had a 63-25 win January 5 at Lake Park. The Hawks fell to 0-5 in the War Eagle Conference and 0-9 overall.
Jayden Leth led HMS with nine points. Josh Cruz scored seven points, George Vargas four, Lawton Schiphoff three and Bradley Van Beek two. The Hawks had only three free throw attempts, making two. No other HMS stats were available.
A quartet of HLP players reached double figures. Caleb Hemphill was the high scorer with 20 points. The Wolves were 28-of-68 from the floor for 41 percent. They were 5-of-20 from behind the three-point line and 2-of-9 at the charity stripe.
