Hawk scoring uptick continues but Trinity boys get the win

Hartley-Melvin-Sanborn reached the half-century mark for the second game in a row, but Trinity Christian’s offense was humming as well. The Tigers connected on half of their 56 field goal attempts in dealing HMS a 71-50 defeat February 2 at Hull. With the loss the Hawks fall to 0-9 in War Eagle Conference play. They are 0-19 on the season.
HMS turned in one of its better shooting nights with 19 baskets in 45 tries for 42 percent. The Hawks were 10-of-24 from beyond the arc and 2-of-4 at the free throw line.
HMS got 18 points from Zac Pearson, 15 from Lawton Schiphoff, nine from George Vargas and four from both Jayden Leth and Alex Billings. The 16 assists included five from Kolby Douma, three each from the trio of Pearson, Leth and Vargas and two from Schiphoff.
Vargas pulled down five rebounds and made two steals. Schiphoff also collected five caroms and Billings blocked a pair of shots. Trinity was guilty of nine turnovers while the Hawks committed twice that many.
