Okoboji/HMS gets a split in triangular at Hull
Okoboji/HMS participated in a wrestling triangular held January 30 at Hull. The Pioneers earned a split on the day with a 55-18 victory over MOC-FV and a 42-34 loss to host Boyden-Hull/Rock Valley. Okoboji/HMS finishes dual competition with a record of 11-5.
HMS athletes in action were Nathan Stofferan, James Gellerman, Ethan Wiersma, Bryce Ortega and Taylor Dykstra. Gellerman wrestled at 190 pounds to win a 14-1 major decision over MOC/Floyd Valley’s Beau Weber and at 175 to pin Cozyn Rozeboom of Boyden-Hull/Rock Valley in 1:23.
Wiersma also won twice on the day with both wins coming via the fall. The 215-pounder pinned MOC-Floyd Valley’s German Topete in 2:46 and the Nighthawks’ Braidyn Cihlar in 4:16.
Stofferan, wrestling at 113 pounds, and Ortega, competing at 285, both won by forfeit against the Dutchmen. Stofferan lost by fall to his Nighthawk opponent, Cole Bomgaars in 3:47. Ortega was also the victim of a pin, as Boyden-Hull/Rock Valley’s Jesue Garcia got the job done in 3:39.
Dykstra was one of the wrestlers in an extra match during the MOC-Floyd Valley dual. The 132-pounder lost a 12-10 decision to Blaize Jackson.
