William Hakeman
1935-2024
Funeral services were January 27 in Louisiana for William Lee Hakeman, age 88 of Lafayette, LA, who passed away on Sunday, January 21, 2024, at Valley View Healthcare Facility in Mansura, LA.
Bill was born December 15, 1935, on the family farm near Sanborn. He graduated from Sanborn High School in 1954. Bill was a Deep Sea Diver, having been trained at the famous Navy Diving School while still in the Army.
It was on one of his diving jobs, on the Glomar Conception in Papua, New Guinea, that he met his Aussie redhead and married her in Sydney, Australia; that marriage has lasted 56 years. Bill retired at age 71.
He is survived by his beloved wife, Edna-Mae “Ande” Power Hakeman, of Lafayette, LA; his son and three daughters; seven grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; his brother, Tom Hakeman and his wife, Candy, of Kerrville, Texas; and beloved nieces and nephews.
Bill was preceded in death by his parents, Cornyle and Esther Hakeman; his brothers, Don, Jerry, and Robert ‘Bob’, and nephews, Mike and Jeff Hakeman.
Fountain Memorial Funeral Home and Cemetery of Lafayette was in charge of arrangements.
