Obituary – Cody Cammann

1986-2024
Cody Fitzpatrick Cammann was born on December 4, 1986, in Bakersfield, CA, the son of Barry F. and Brenda L. (Ackerman) Cammann. He spent his early years in California, moving with his family to Melvin, IA in 1993 and continuing his education here, graduating from Hartley-Melvin-Sanborn High School with the class of 2005. Throughout his high school years, Cody participated in wrestling and football while holding down a part-time job at Jay’s Restaurant in Sanborn, IA. Knowing what HE liked to eat inspired him to invent the “Cody Breakfast Sandwich”; apparently others liked it too as it ended up on the menu! His interest in good food stayed with him as he enjoyed experimenting in later years with smoking different kinds of meat.
Sports were always a big part of Cody’s life. His Dad had passed on his love for disc golf, giving Cody the skill and know-how to become a co-founder of the course which was built in Sanborn. After high school, he also had the opportunity to continue playing football – this time with the Iowa Sharks semi-pro team – until he suffered a serious shoulder injury. He worked at various jobs, including Maintainer Corporation in Sheldon, IA as a welder…another talent he learned from his father, ethanol plant construction, and Demco, Inc. in Boyden, IA. Being passionate about his job, he soon worked his way up to his current role of Team Lead of the Robot Middle Weld Department. Currently, he was also assisting Gary Thompsen with his hog unit near Melvin.
On April 30, 2011, Cody was united in marriage to Tori Lynn Ross at Melvin, IA. The new couple made their home in Sanborn, along with Cody’s daughter, Madison, eventually adding two children to complete their family: Emery and Milet. While working and going to the kids’ activities kept everyone’s schedules fairly occupied, there was always a little time left for recreation. Hunting and fishing were first on Cody’s list, followed by disc golf and kayaking. Being a member of A.B.A.T.E. of Iowa, both he and Tori enjoyed taking a spin on his Harley or going on a short trip. With all of his interests and passions – family always came first.
On Tuesday, February 13, 2024, Cody passed from this life at the age of 37 years. He is lovingly remembered by his wife, Tori Cammann; children: Madison, Emery, and Milet Cammann all of Sanborn, IA; his mother, Brenda Cammann; and siblings: Chris (Macie) Cammann, and Kari (Kevin) Vige all of Sanborn; mother-in-law, Sheila Ross; brothers-in-law: Patrick Conry and Chance Lester all of Melvin; Tori’s grandparents: Roger and Peg Jacobs of Hartley, IA and Ronald Lester, Sr. of Ogden, IA; other aunts, uncles, nieces and nephews, cousins and good friends.
Preceding him in death were his father, Barry Cammann; step-father-in-law, Ronald Lester, Jr.; grandparents: Stan and Karen Ackerman, Sarah Tesso, Vern Ross and Sheryle Lester; aunt, Susan Ackerman; uncles: David Heitritter, and Troy Ackerman.
