Crash claims the life of a Hartley teen
Josh Cruz-Salzillo has died as the result of a single-vehicle crash northwest of Hartley on March 20. The 16 year old from Hartley was eastbound on 300th Street near Van Buren Avenue at approximately 8:30 a.m. The Iowa State Patrol was summoned after the 2000 Honda Accord that Cruz-Salzillo was driving left the roadway and struck a creek embankment. According to the report by the State Trooper, Cruz-Salzillo was not wearing a seat belt and suffered a fatal injury. The Iowa State Patrol was assisted by the O’Brien County Sheriff’s Office, the DNR and Hartley EMS.
A Celebration of Life service for Josh will be held on Saturday, March 30 at 1:30 p.m. at the HMS High School gymnasium in Hartley. Prior to that on Friday, March 29 visitation will be held at the Hartley Funeral Home from 3:00 to 7:00 p.m. with the family present from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m.
In lieu of floral gifts, memorials for Josh may be given at Hartley Savings Bank or Primghar Savings Bank.
