Pinewood Derby held at Yesterday’s Memories

The Sanborn Cornerstone URC boys and girls’ clubs held their Pinewood Derby on April 3. It was held again this year at Yesterday’s Memories and Truck Museum. The event carried out a Mario theme.
Before the racing got underway the Cornerstone young people’s group served up some delicious food options. On the menu were pulled pork sandwiches, cole slaw and nachos, all topped off with an ice cream sundae.
After the cars were weighed for check in the racing began. The cars can only weigh up to six ounces total. The Pinewood cars were judged by speed based on four separate races per car and then the average speed was given to pick the top cars. Racers competed against cars from their age group: 4th, 5th, 6th, 7th and 8th. The cars were also judged for best of show per class group.
The software program saw it’s second year in use helped keep the event moving. The results of each race and next cars to take the track were displayed on screens for the crowd to see, making the audience and racers much more involved and aware of the races of the evening.
It all made for a fun and entertaining evening.
