Federal charge replaces state counts against Sanborn bank robbery suspect

A federal bank robbery charge has been filed against a Sanborn man accused of robbing Sanborn Savings Bank in January. Del Martinnez Evans, age 40 of Sanborn, pled not guilty to second-degree robbery and second-degree theft charges. Those charges have been dismissed but Evans now faces a federal charge of bank robbery by force or violence. If convicted, he could face up to 20 years in federal prison.
Records indicate that on January 22, 2024 Evans walked into Sanborn Savings Bank and approached a bank teller, handing the teller a note demanding money. They also indicate that the teller was “placed in fear” and handed Evans an undetermined amount of cash, which was later found to have been $5,308. Evans was taken into custody in Sanborn withing a couple of hours of the robbery.
