The family of Murvin and Marie Hopkins held a family reunion at Yesterday’s Museum in Sanborn on June 8. It was attended by 81 people representing all nine of their children. Three of the children have passed: Gretchen (Warren) Louderback, Marveen (Louis) Lange, and Jeanette (Arley) Endorf. All six of their living children were in attendance: Keith (Kathryn) Hopkins of Coucan, TX, Marian Anderson of Round Rock, TX, Kenneth (known as Butch to his family) Hopkins of Tifton, GA, Nancy Huff of Sheldon, Jean (Phil) Snyder of Sanborn, and Jane (Ken) Conaway of Council Bluffs. Those in attendance were from many states including Washington, Arizona, Georgia, California, South Dakota, Minnesota, and many from Iowa. The food was wonderful and it was fun catching up on all the family changes.
Two weeks ago Debbie Raymond spent Friday, Saturday and Sunday in Des Moines attending the 2024 Iowa Annual Conference of the United Methodist Church. Saturday night after the meeting, she had supper and visited with one of her old classmates who turns out to also be a distant cousin.
On Thurs., June 13 Carol Salazar, Cindy McParland, Mary Waltz, Elaine Dagel, Nancy Dagel, and Joyce Tewes celebrated Joyce’s birthday at Stop Light Lounge in Hartley. They enjoyed happy hour, a great meal and lots of laughs.
Weekend guests in the Jack and Carol Elgersma home were Alissa, Chloe, Taylen, Ellie and Jase Holland of Buffalo Center. Joining them were Brandi, Mace, Jack and Kennedy Wright of Sanborn.
Randy and Candice Lyman went to Lincoln, NE to help their grandson, Ryker Eliker celebrate his seventh birthday anniversary. They also watched him play baseball. Also there were Chad and Rhonda Lyman, and Jayden Lyman of Harrisburg, SD.
The Crazy 8 Card Club met last week Friday at Jay’s Restaurant & Lounge to play 500. Jean Snyder won high, Ronda Pry second and Shirley Mulder was low.
Early Father’s Day guests in the home of Rick Maranell last Thursday were Kara, Mitch and Jack Sand of Sioux Falls, SD, Linda Rozeboom and Bob Maranell. Bob’s birthday was also celebrated.
On Sunday James Carney and his mother, Lindy Buren, went to Ayrshire and then on to Ruthven to visit James Stowell in the care center. They ate dinner in Spencer and then drove back to Sibley where Jim is living at the Sibley Care Initiatives Rehab.
Last Thursday Joanne Andersen drove to Mankato, MN meeting her daughter Athena, husband Wade and Gavin of Sioux Falls, SD. They attended the performance of Grease at MSU, Mankato. The cast included her granddaughter, Brooklyn (in her comedy debut.) On Friday Joanne rode with Athena’s family to the Twin Cities area to see a performance of Matilda, Jr. The cast included her granddaughter, Isabella Andersen as Ms. Trunchbull. The students did well with their British accents and loud voices. After the play Isabella and her mom enjoyed some ice cream with Gavin, Wade, Athena and Gramma Jo. On the “way home” Wade, Athena, Gavin and Joanne were able to join Brooklyn and friends in Mankato for pizza.
Mondqy overnight guests in the Lee and Susie Van Tol home were niece Carolyn from California and her mother, Magoila from Las Vegas, NV. They all enjoyed pizza at the Pizza Ranch in Sheldon along with other relatives. They returned home Tuesday morning.
Father’s Day guests in the home of Lee and Susie Van Tol were Mike and Judy Visser, and Gertie Visser.
Larry and Fran Peelen began celebrating their 66th year of marriage with a helicopter ride over Sheldon and Sanborn and area. The day was beautiful with no wind, sunny and could see for miles. Thank you Jake Korver for making the ride a great adventure. The Peelens then celebrated with an evening out at a restaurant in Le Mars. A quiet but fun time. They received cards and greetings from many friends and family.
Last Sunday Joanne Anderson spent time at the home of her daughter Athena visiting with her niece and family from Gardner, KS. They were in town for a soccer tournament. Later they enjoyed a meal at a local restaurant.
Becky Suckow, Sandi Kleve and CJ Schroeder attended the Lutheran Women’s Missionary League District Convention held at Camp Okoboji last Thursday, Friday and Saturday. They represented St. John’s Lutheran Ladies Aid from Sanborn.
