Fog is blamed for four vehicle accident north of Sanborn
Fog was a factor in a four vehicle accident north of Sanborn last week. Iowa State Patrol investigated the accident but as of press time had not released the names of any of the four drivers. No serious injuries were reported.
The accident occurred just before 8:00 a.m. on Wednesday, August 28 at the intersection of Highway 59 and 260th Street, six miles north of Sanborn.
According to the report a 2005 Peterbilt semi driven by a 35 year old Sioux Rapids man stopped at the stop sign eastbound on 260th Street and, in dense fog, proceeded to attempt a left turn. A 2016 Kenworth semi driven by a 79 year old Alvood man was southbound on Highway 59 and saw the first vehicle attempting to turn. The Kenworth semi struck the turning vehicle and jackknifed in the southbound lane of Highway 59. The first vehicle came to rest on the highway.
A 2018 Mitsubishi Outlander driven by a 33 year old woman from Cherokee was northbound on Highway 59, took evasive action and came to rest without contacting any vehicles. A 2014 Peterbilt semi driven by a 61 year old Bigelow, MN man was northbound on Highway 59. While the driver of the Mitsubishi was trying to back away from the scene her vehicle was struck by the northbound Peterbilt semi.
