Hartley-Melvin-Sanborn again competed against a large field of runners as the Hawks took part in the Sibley-Ocheyedan Cross Country Invitational September 10. Sibley Golf & Country Club was the location for the event.
Kamryn Ebel placed 22nd among the 59 runners in the girls varsity race. Gracie Knobloch finished 52nd.
For the second straight meet, Aiden Bush was the top finisher for the HMS boys. He placed 27th. Easton Teal was next for the Hawks with a 34th-place finish. Ryan Grotluschen placed 41st, Damian Dodge 48th and James Carlin 49th. Blaine Finster came in 58th and Carter Dolphin 84th.
“It was another good night on the course for us,” remarked Hawk coach Naet Hoaglund. “I’m proud of how our kids continue to compete and the progress we’re making. On the girls side, Kamryn Ebel continues to get better.She’s got great confidence and is running more relaxed each time out and her times are showing that. I’m proud of how hard she works and her mental approach to our workouts and meets.
“On the boys side, Aiden Bush continues to lead us with his times and is progressing nicely. Easton Teal had a really nice meet for us, running a personal best 19:59. He continues to work hard and he’s starting to see some of that hard work pay off. James Carlin continues to impress me. He works tremendously hard but what I’m probably most proud of with him is his mindset and attitude. He’s a competitor and embraces challenges – I love that out of him. Overall, I’m proud of how our kids continue to work and the strides we continue to make. It’s fun to watch them compete.”
HMS was seventh in the boys team competition with 195 points, placing behind several 2A schools. One of those schools was Okoboji, which won the Invite was a score of 33. The girls team champ was Alta-Aurelia with a 45 score.
Three Hawks competed at the JV level. Brooklyn Erickson was 22nd among the girls. In the boys race, Karter Zimmer placed 34th and Moises Gonzalez 45th.
