Hawks sweep Sergeant Bluff-Luton in first road outing

Both the Hartley-Melvin-Sanborn girls and boys bowlers got to compete December 5 against Sergeant Bluff-Luton. The Hawks won both sides of the dual bowled at Sioux City’s Stadium Bowl. The Hms girls bowled a 1779 and the Warriors a 1704. For the boys it was the Hawks 2915 and SBL 2550.
“The girls came away with their first win in their first competition,” noted Hawk coach Julia Meyer. “The girls started out with some pretty good individual games. The Baker games need to improve, and we will be working to improve our spares to get all of our scores higher. I know they can do it. We had a struggle adapting to the oil pattern, but it was a good experience.”
Lillian Van Loon led the high games with 135 and 131. Addison Huffman bowled 123 and 110, Kaidence Shaffer 100 and 121, Kaeley Benson 120 and 116, Stella Anderson 110 and 110 and Jeriann Holtz 105 and 84. The girls’ Baker games were 115, 133, 119, 107 and 129.
“I am excited to see what these talented young ladies will do this year,” remarked Meyer. “I’m very happy for the experience this gave them and the win.”
Fot the Hawk boys, it was their second win of the week. “The boys had some super individual games,” noted Meyer. “Each set of individual games we had three 200 games. Big 200 games!”
Jack Mastbergen led the games with 226 and 244. Eli Mastbergen bowled a 238, Dawson Niichel a 229 and Hunter Daggett a 223. “The ability to adapt to the oil pattern there at the lanes was the key to keeping their scores on the higher side,” said the coach. Eli Mastbergen added a 189 game, Dawson Niichel a 182 and Daggett a 119. Graham Lux rolled a 207 and a 169 and Braden Niichel a 175 and 170.
“It was a good experience for both HMS teams,” concluded Meyer. “Very proud of all the bowlers and their efforts.”
