Hawk girls pull out a win over GTRA
In a game that was close throughout, Abby Douma’s conventional three-point play with a little over two minutes remaining put Hartley-Melvin-Sanborn ahead to stay and the Hawks picked up a 74-67 non-conference win over Graettinger-Terril/Ruthven-Ayrshire December 16 at Hartley.
Douma finished with 15 points but the high scorer for the Hawks was Kylee Schiphoff. The latter connected on five of six three-point shots and scored 27 points. Moriah Otto contributed 11 points, Gracie Knobloch nine (including going 6-for-6 at the foul line), Lindsey Van Es six, Eliza Tewes five and Frankie Mohni one. Knobloch dished off for six assists while Van Es and Tewes each had three.
With HMS turning the ball over 37 times and the Titans collecting 19 offensive rebounds, GTRA was able to put up 71 shots. They made 24 of them to shoot 34 percent. The Hawks attempted 50 shots and also were successful on 24. That translated to 48 percent shooting. HMS was 7-of-15 from deep and the Titans 6-of-19. The Hawks were busy at the free throw line with 28 attempts, making 19, GTRA was 13-of-22 from the line. Scoring in double-figures for the Titans were Kamryn Hough with 17 points, Addison Hansen with 16 and Caitlyn Hough with 13.
HMS did win the overall rebound battle 42-34. The major contributors were Schiphoff with 12 boards and Otto with 11.
GTRA was guilty of 28 turnovers. Knobloch and Otto each came away with three steals. Douma blocked nine shots.
