Hawks get two wins against West Sioux
Hartley-Melvin-Sanborn met the West Sioux bowlers December 17 at Sportsman’s Lanes in Hawarden. The HMS boys remained undefeated, moving to 3-0, after topping the Falcons 2937 to 2506. The Hawk girls are 2-0 after winning against a depleted West Sioux entry.
“The girls team bowled a three-game format, as West Sioux only had one girl to participate,” noted HMS coach Julia Meyer. “They came away with a win. Some of the girls tried to adjust to the lane conditions and getting their fills. We are working on the adjustments we need to make at each different bowling alley. Mason VerHelst and Jordan Lux tied for high series at 473. Lux rolled a high game of 180. VerHelst’s high game was 161.
The boys bowled six games of over 200. Jack Mastbergen rolled a 226 and a 220. Hunter Daggett bowled a 224. Luke Dagel turned in games of 221 and 210 and Graham Lux rolled a 201. Mastbergen produced the high series of 446. Dagel was next at 431. “The boys are doing a good job of adjusting and keeping their individual scores up at or near the 200’s,” noted Meyer.
The boys’ Baker games were 146, 200, 224, 185 and 175. “The Baker games are averaging 186, which is good, but I feel we’ll need an average of 200 to compete with some of our upcoming opponents,” said Meyer. “We definitely have the talent to do it.” The coach concluded her comments by saying, “Thanks to the fans for their support. We appreciate their loyalty.”
