Hawk girls lose to Hinton 61-25

Lindsey Haken was just too much for Hartley-Melvin-Sanborn. The George-Little Rock junior scored 27 points, grabbed 12 rebounds, made nine steals and blocked two shots to lead the Mustangs to a 50-45 win over HMS January 7 at George. The Hawks, who fell to 7-4 overall, had won their previous three War Eagle Conference contests.
At the half the teams were tied at 26. George-Little Rock scored the first eight points of the third quarter. HMS kept the deficit under 10 points and were as close as three with half a minute remaining. The Mustangs hit a pair of free throws with 11 seconds left to make the final margin of victory five points.
George-Little Rock stepped to the free throw line 19 times and made 12. The Hawks were 4-of-9 from the line. HMS did manage 44 percent shooting from the field, going 19-for-43. The home team was 17-of-52 from the floor for 33 percent. From behind the three-point line the Hawks were 3-of-12 and the Mustangs 4-of-14.
Gracie Knobloch led HMS with 11 points, followed by Moriah Otto with nine, Frankie Mohni with eight, Abby Douma with seven, Kylee Schiphoff with six and Lindsey Van Es and Eliza Tewes with two each. Knobloch notched four assists while Schiphoff and Otto each had three.
The Hawks lost the rebound battle 37-25. Otto collected eight rebounds, Douma six and Schiphoff four. The turnover totals showed HMS with 21 and the Mustangs with 24. Schiphoff made three steals and Knobloch and Van Es each had two. Douma blocked 11 shots.
