Hawk girls make Sheldon pay for sending them to the line
Sinking free throws was instrumental in Hartley-Melvin-Sanborn sinking Sheldon 57-46 in a inter-conference game played January 13 at Sheldon. The Hawks went 27-for-39 at the line to send the Siouxland Conference hosts to their 11th loss in 13 games.
HMS was 12-of-37 from the field for 33 percent including 6-of-16 from beyond the arc. The Orabs shot 27 percent (12-of-44) overall and were 10-of-28 on their long range shots while going 12-for-18 at the line.
There was balance among the top Hawk scorers. Moriah Otto finished with 14 points, Abby Douma 10 and Gracie Knobloch and Kylee Schiphoff 13 each. Lindsey Van Es added four points and Frankie Mohni three. Guards Knobloch and Mohni each contributed three assists. Anna Vollink scored 23 points to pace Sheldon.
Schiphoff came down with seven rebounds and Otto six. Douma blocked six shots. Knobloch made three steals with Schiphoff and Otto each pilfering the ball twice. The turnover totals showed HMS with 18 and the Orabs with 16.
