A Final Mass is celebrated prior to St. Cecilia’s being put up for sale

With changes on the way a Final Mass was celebrated Sunday, February 16 at St. Cecilia’s Catholic Church in Sanborn.
Megan Wagner is the Director of Faith Formation for the Sacred Heart Parish. She oversees Catholic Churches in O’Brien County. Wagner has confirmed that St. Cecilia’s Church is for sale. “We pray the potential buyers will put the Church to good use and serve our community well,” said Wagner.
A Final Mass had been held in 2018 when Mass in O’Brien County was cut back to only two locations: St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Hartley and St. Anthony Catholic Church in Primghar. At the 2018 Mass, history was presented with historical photos displayed.
A nice crowd gathered for the Mass on February 16. Father Kevin Richter and Father Tim Hogan were the concelebrants of the Mass and shared greetings from other priests who had served St. Cecilia’s in the past. The sermon reflected on the occasion.
Among those attending were a couple from out of town who were married in St. Cecilia’s over 50 years ago. They shared their photos from that occasion.
A fellowship time was held after the service with many memories shared, and hopes for the future of what was thought of as their special space. The next steps in the process were announced at that time.
