Obituary – Alice Zonnefeld

Alice Jean (Ranschau) Zonnefeld, the daughter of Walter Henry and Mary Louise (Wilder) Ranschau, was born on September 17, 1960. She spent her youth in the Inwood, Iowa area and received her education through the West Lyon school system, graduating from West Lyon High School with the class of 1979.
After graduation, she moved to Sheldon, Iowa, enrolling at Northwest Iowa Community College. She was then employed by Village Northwest Unlimited in Sheldon for several years, as well as managing the Sanborn Municipal Pool in Sanborn, Iowa.
On Friday, December 31, 1982, Alice was united in marriage to Douglas Jay “Doug” Zonnefeld at Bethlehem Lutheran Church in Inwood. Their entire married life was spent in the Sanborn community where they raised their three daughters: Naomi, Noelle, and Nicolette.
Recently, Alice’s health had quickly declined and she passed away at her home in Sanborn on July 3, 2025, at the age of 64 years. She was preceded in death by her husband, Doug Zonnefeld in 2018.
Alice is survived by her children: Naomi (Zonnefeld) and Jeff Walters of Sanborn, Iowa, Noelle (Zonnefeld) and Jordan Vlastuin of Lennox, South Dakota, and Nicolette (Zonnefeld) and Shane Sybesma of Sanborn, Iowa; her beloved grandchildren: Delaney Murphy, Kylie Vlastuin, William Vlastuin, Evan Vlastuin, Parker Boone, Cody Sybesma, Conner Sybesma, Mya Sybesma, Caleb Sybesma, and Indie Sybesma; other relatives and friends.
A memorial service was held July 10 at Christian Reformed Church, Sanborn, Iowa with Pastor Phil Westra officiating.
Songs of Praise were “Amazing Grace” and “I Can Only Imagine.” Catherine Schreur was the organist.
Honorary Pallbearers were Jeff Walters, Jordan Vlastuin, Shane Sybesma and Doug Bootsma.
