Host Knight sprinters outrun HMS boys at Unity Invite
Unity Christian denied Hartley-Melvin-Sanborn sprinters several first place finishes as the teams competed at the Unity Invite April 12 at Northwestern College in Orange City. The Knights set new meet records in the 200 meter dash and the 4×100 and 4×200 relays. Coming in second in each instance were the Hawk speedsters.
The runner-up finishes helped HMS total 48 points to rank fifth in the eight-team field. MOC-Floyd Valley won the team title with 168 points. Second was Western Christian with 107 points, edging out Unity Christian which finished third with 106 points.
Lineups for both the Hawk 4×100 and 4×200 were Noah Adams, Kooper Ebel, Dawson Schiphoff and Connor Dodd. In addition, Dodd was the runner-up in the 100 meters and in the 200 meters. Ebel was fifth in the 100. In the shot put, Gabe Bronstad finished fourth and Jesse Garcia sixth. Sixth was also the finishing position for Adams in the long jump and Ebel in the high jump.
Three HMS relays placed fifth: the 4×400 of Ryan Borden, Travis Kamradt, Tyson Tessum and JP Mutombo, the sprint medley of Borden, Schiphoff, Kamradt and Mason Brinkman and the distance medley of Borden, Kamradt, Mutombo and Brenton Thomas. Finishing sixth were Ethan Diehm, Aiden Espeland, Mitchell Meyers and George Vargas in the 4×800.
