Accident west of Sanborn sends Sheldon teen to the hospital
A two vehicle collision west of Sanborn on Friday, September 13 resulted in a Sheldon teen being taken to the hospital. The accident occurred at approximately 5:30 p.m. on Highway 18 at the intersection with county road L40 (Pierce Avenue).
According to the O’Brien County Sheriff’s office, a 2008 Ford Fusion driven by Alexis Marie Wunder, age 18 of Spencer, was traveling east on Highway 18 when the vehicle in front stopped. Wunder saw the vehicle was stopped and she slowed down and stopped. Traveling behind Wunder was a 2011 Volkswagen Jetta driven by Ana Olivia Chavez Morales, age 15 of Spencer. Chavez Morales tried to stop but was unable to and crashed into the rear of the Wunder vehicle. The vehicle which had stopped in front of Wunder was not at the scene when law enforcement arrived.
Chavez Morales suffered possible injury and was transported to the Sheldon Hospital by Sheldon Ambulance. Wunder was not injured. The Jetta driven by Chavez Morales was totaled. Wunder’s Fusion sustained disabling damage estimated at $7,000.
Chavez Morales was cited for having no valid driver’s license.
