Two lose their lives in separate traffic accidents
Two separate traffic accidents have taken the lives of two northwest Iowa men.
On Saturday, September 7, Chad Banks, age 49 of Milford, was alone on a motorcycle on Highway 71 in north Milford when he entered the west ditch at around 6:20 p.m. Banks was transported by Lakes Ambulance to the Spirit Lake hospital and transferred to Sioux Falls. He later passed away.
On Wednesday, September 11 at approximately 8:45 a.m., Douglas Nielsen, age 54 of Everly, was eastbound on county road B24 (350th Street) about a mile south and two miles east of Everly. According to the Iowa State Patrol, Nielsen, operating a 2006 Harley-Davidson motorcycle, struck the rear of a 2013 Chrysler Town & Country minivan driven by Amber Lee Champine, age 51 of May City. Nielsen was thrown from his motorcycle and was struck by a westbound 2009 Chevy Silverado driven by Kenneth Paul Ulatowski, age 62 of Sheldon.
Nielsen was pronounced dead at the scene.
The Iowa State Patrol was assisted by the Clay County Sheriff’s Office, Fostoria Fire and Spencer Fire and Ambulance.
