Hawks show better overall at Wolverine Cross Country Invite

Hartley-Melvin-Sanborn got the opportunity to compete against several War Eagle Conference schools at the Wolverine Cross Country Invitational. The Invite was held October 3 at Paullina Golf Course on Mill Creek.
“We had two main goals going into the South O’Brien meet,” noted Hawk coach Naet Hoaglund. “The first was to bounce back and compete a little better than we did on Monday. I thought we accomplished that goal and looked really strong doing so. The second was to compete and score strong against the conference schools that were there. We’ve got our conference meet in a couple of weeks so seeing some of those teams as a preview was helpful in seeing how we stack up against their runners. I thought we competed well in that regard.”
The coach saw some good things from both his girls and boys. “On the girls side, we had PR’s out of Gracie Koblock and Brooklynn Erickson,” said Hoaglund. “This was the first time Brooklyn competed as a varsity runner and I thought she did a tremendous job. She’s worked really hard and made so much progress this year. Kamryn Ebel had a top 10 finish and medaled for us. She ran a nice time and I was happy with her race as a whole.
“On the boys side, we finished third overall. Aiden Bush was our lone medalist placing 14th, and then we were really consistent with our next four runners finishing 18, 19, 20, and 21st. I was really proud of how Blaine Finster ran. That was the strongest he looked all season and I thought he finished the last 800 meters really well and recorded a PR. James Carlin continues to run strong and keeps getting better and was able to PR last night as well.”
