Hawks boys open with win over ELC bowlers

Hartley-Melvin-Sanborn got the bowling season underway with a boys victory over Estherville Lincoln Central December 3 at Locomotion Lanes in Sanborn. HMS rolled to a 3022 total with the Midgets finishing at 2085.
“The boys got off to a great start in the individual games with four of the six boys hitting 200 games,” noted HMS coach Julia Meyer. “The second individual games were just as good and three 200 games. Our Baker games were good but we want to get every game around 200. I believe we have the ability to do that. We want to keep improving each meet. We had spares that we didn’t convert that would have improved our scores. The games total and baker games are over last years’ averages which is outstanding.” Dawson Niichel led all games with 216 and 249. Eli Mastbergen bowled a 234 and 206 with Jack Mastbergen rolling 217 and 212 and Hunter Daggett bowling 206. Daggett also recorded a 162 with Damian Dodge rolling a 170 and 195 and Skyler Shaffer bowling 187 and 171. The Baker games were 184, 179, 213, 210 and 169.
“With no girls team to play against, I had the girls team bowl against their averages,” explained Meyer. “We took advantage of this opportunity to get in a ‘practice meet’. We have eight girls out for bowling, two juniors and six freshmen. The girls started out their individual games with some great scores for a ‘first meet’. The Baker games scores were good as well. Our total points were over our average numbers of the last 2 years so far. That is great news, and we hope to keep improving these number also.”
Mason VerHelst led the way with high game of 182, followed by Kaidence Shaffer with 180, Jordan Lux with 179. The other high scores were 167 from Addison Huffman, 155 for Stella Anderson, 131 for Lillian Van Loon, 129 for Kaeley Benson and 120 for Jeriann Holtz. Their practice Baker game scores were 161, 137, 134, 111 and 148.
“Overall, I’m very happy with the scores and their efforts this early in the season,” said Meyer. “Thanks to the fans and Locomotion Lanes for their support.”
