In one last competition before the Christmas break, Okoboji/HMS wrestled in the Austin Roberts Memorial Tournament December 21 at Spencer. The Pioneers placed fourth as a team with 158 points. Jackson County, MN won the tourney with a 223 total. The host Tigers were second and West Lyon third.
Keying the Okoboji effort were Chase Franklin who won the 120-pound weight class and Nathaniel Franklin who was second at 175. Placing third were Tyce Hanson at 132, Brennan Baschke at 138, Dillon Wittrock at 150 and Keyshawn Smith at 285.
One of the wrestlers to finish fourth was Nathan Stofferan of HMS. The 113-pounder lost his opening match by fall to Mathias Liepold of Jackson County in 5:45. Moving to the consolation round, Stofferan pinned Sibley-Ocheyedan’s Goivanni Garcia in 1:37 and MMCRU’s Nolan Carver in :53. The battle for third place was a rematch with Liepold who again won by fall, this time in 3:41.
