Hawks’ fourth-quarter surge secures win over West Sioux
In a hotly contested game, Hartley-Melvin-Sanborn took the lead for good late in the third quarter on the way to a 51-43 War Eagle Conference victory over West Sioux January 10 at Hartley. The win allowed the Hawks to improve to 2-3 in conference play. The result put each team at 3-7 on the season.
Isaac Schierholz finished with 22 points, 13 rebounds, seven assists and three blocked shots. Caden Douma scored 16 points, Jackson Vogt nine and Alex Billings four.
HMS shot 18-for-42 (43 percent) and the Falcons 17-for-52 (33 percent). The Hawks drained eight of 22 treys while West Sioux was just 1-of-13 from distance. No such disparity existed at the charity stripe where HMS was 7-of-13 and the Falcons 8-of-12.
Jayden Leth joined Caden Douma and Vogt in making a steal. West Sioux had nine turnovers. The Hawks turned the ball over 14 times. The 31 HMS rebounds included six from Vogt and five from both Billings and Caden Douma.
