Okoboji/HMS boys go 2-1 at Algona quad
The Okoboji/HMS boys began a busy week with a January 14 trip to Algona for a quadrangular. The Pioneers’ only loss was 56-20 to the host Bulldogs. They defeated Cherokee 62-19 and Estherville Lincoln Central 46-36.
HMS wrestlers competing were Dallas Greer at 113 pounds and Riley Mattingly at 215. Greer collected a win by forfeit in the dual with Cherokee but lost by fall to Algona’s Thomas Zabka in 1:42 and was pinned by ELC’s Aiden White in 108. Mattingly dropped all three of his matches by fall. Algona’s Gavin Goche won in 36 seconds, the Braves’ Sean Comstock was the winner in 3:33 and ELC’s Aiden Deim triumphed in 4:52.
Several HMS grapplers took part in JV matches. A number of them involved Algona wrestlers. Winning by fall were Mykle Meyers over Levi Allen in 1:53 and Emilio Martinez over Seth Moreno in 2:55. Meyers was pinned by Wes Streit in 3:10 and Easton Teal lost by fall to Noah Schafer in 5:46. In addition, Taylor Dykstra recorded pins against Cherokee’s Leland Baughman in 3:49 and the Midgets’ Dalton Lutat in 4:50.
