Fast start propels Blackhawks to win over HMS boys
Hinton jumped out to a 13-point lead after one quarter of its game with Hartley-Melvin-Sanborn and made it hold up. HMS was unable to dig out of the hole and dropped the War Eagle Conference contest 62-49 January 17 at Hinton. With the loss the Hawks dipped to 3-4 in the conference and to 4-9 on the season.
The Blackhawks took 58 shots and made 27 of them to shoot 47 percent. HMS was 20-of-45 from the floor for 44 percent. Hinton crashed the glass to collect 14 offensive rebounds and allow more chances at the basket. The Hawks tried to take advantage of their three-point shooting, going 9-for-19 from long range. The Blackhawks were 3-of-18 from beyond the arc and 5-of-8 from the charity stripe. HMS missed all three of its free throw attempts.
Just a half dozen Hawks saw action and all six scored. Caden Douma finished with 17 points, Isaac Schierholz 11, Jayden Leth nine, Kolby Douma six, Alex Billings four and Jackson Vogt two. Schierholz supplied four assists and Caden Douma three.
Schierholz grabbed seven rebounds and Caden Douma six. The latter also recorded two steals and two blocked shots. Billings had a blocked shot as well to go with four rebounds.
Caden Douma was the steals leader with two. Hinton had 10 turnovers and the Hawks 13.
