Okoboji/HMS girls are fourth at Siouxland Wrestling Tourney

The Okoboji/HMS girls wrestling team placed fourth out of the eight teams competing at the Siouxland Conference Girls Wrestling Tournament held January 14 at Rock Rapids. The Pioneers totaled 124 points. Host Central Lyon/George-Little Rock was crowned conference champions after scoring 235.5 points to easily outdistance Boyden-Hull/Rock Valley and its 190 total.
Three Okoboji/HMS grapplers earned runner-up finishes. They were Brooke Stockdale at 110 pounds, Dulce Ortega at 115 and Kimberley Bergeson at 135.
HMS wrestlers competing were Addily Benz at 130 pounds and Mahkenzie Mattingly at 155.
Benz dropped all three of her matches and placed sixth. She lost by fall to Cameron Halbur of Boyden-Hull/Rock Valley in 28 seconds, was pinned by Avery Littlefield of the host Lions in 21 seconds and forfeited the fifth place match to West Lyon’s Maddy Cornell for medical reasons.
Mattingly was pinned twice to complete her day. She lost by fall to Sibley-Ocheyedan’s Reagan Rusche in 50 seconds and to Paityn Horner of Sheldon/South O’Brien in 1:13.
