Hawk girls refuse to lose against George-Little Rock


Trailing after three and facing a second loss to George-Little Rock this season, Hartley-Melvin-Sanborn scored the first 10 points of the fourth quarter and went on to beat the Mustangs 58-51 February 4 at Hartley. The Hawks won for the fourth straight time to improve to 13-7 on the season
HMS got 18 points from Kylee Schiphoff, 12 from Moriah Otto, 10 from Gracie Knobloch, nine from Frankie Mohni, five from Abby Douma and two from both Addy Sheeler and Eliza Tewes. Working to distribute the ball were were Schiphoff and Mohni with five assists each.
The Hawks made 19 of their 50 field goal tries to shoot 38 percent. They were 8-of-21 from beyond the arc and an even 50 percent (12-of-24) at the free throw line. George-Little Rock shot 40 percent with 19 baskets in 47 attempts. The Mustangs went 3-for-13 from deep and 10-for-21 at the foul line.
HMS pounded the boards to the tune of a 40-29 rebound advantage. Leading the way were Knobloch, Schiphoff and Otto with eight boards apiece. Douma was one behind with seven.
The 12 steals included three by Douma and two by both Schiphoff and Lindsey Van Es. Douma blocked four shots and Otto two. The turnover totals showed 21 for the visitors and 20 for the Hawks.
