Another Railroad Days has come and gone and there was plenty of fun to be had. However, it’s unlikely that anyone had more fun than our two Parade Marshals, Jeane Van Veldhuizen and Harriet Van Veldhuizen These special ladies have been members of the Sanborn Community for several decades. Jeane, originally from the Carnes area, moved to Sanborn when she married her husband Gene Van Veldhuizen in 1957 and they have two children – Dan Van Veldhuizen and Hope Corso. Harriet, originally from the Sheldon area, moved to Sanborn when she married her husband Ivan Van Veldhuizen in 1958 and they have six girls – Cathy Lyman, Janet Brunsting, Donna Farrell, Nancy Van Dyke, Diane McKee, and Shari Pyle. Although these women married brothers, they are more like sisters to each other than sisters- in-law. In their younger years, both ladies attended Northwestern College in Orange City and became teachers. In fact, you may have had one of them as a substitute teacher if you attended the Sanborn Community School. Through their love of singing and service to others, these two ladies have been a part of the Sanborn Community with their many years of working and volunteering at both community and church events. Their selection as Parade Marshals is just a small token of appreciation for their years of dedication and commitment to Sanborn.
