Four-run fifth lifts MMCRU past Hawks
MMCRU overcame a one-run deficit by scoring four runs in the fifth inning and defeated Hartley-Melvin-Sanborn 7-3 May 26 at Remsen. The Hawks had taken a short-lived 3-2 lead with a pair of unearned runs in the top of the fifth. “We lost a tough one to a very solid MMCRU team,” said HMS coach Jeremy Gloden.
An HMS error allowed the Royals to take a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the third. The Hawks tied the game in the fourth. Jacob Cates led off the inning with a base hit but he was out at second on Samuel Heyn’s ground ball. Trenton Vollink’s single moved Heyn to third. Heyn then scored on Ben Haack’s base hit.
