Timely hitting eludes HMS against Remsen St. Mary’s
A half dozen late runs by Remsen St. Mary’s put its War Eagle Conference game with Hartley-Melvin-Sanborn securely into the win column. St. Mary’s scored four runs in the fifth inning and two more in the sixth to win 10-0 in six innings June 14 at Remsen.
HMS had eight hits in the game but left 12 runners on base, compared to just four for St. Mary’s. “We hit the ball hard, just not quite at the right time,” lamented HMS head coach Stephanie Bronstad. “Taya (Mason) pitched a great game. The girls are playing tough and together.”
Mason went 5-1/3 innings in the circle before RSM ended the contest. She walked two batters and hit one. There were nine St. Mary’s hits and eight of the runs were earned. HMS was guilty of five errors.
Gracie Knobloch was 2-3 at the plate while Darby Mastbergen went 2-for-4. Notching one hit apiece were Elle Mastbergen, Cadence Klein, Abby Kunzman and Mason. Bailey VerHelst drew a couple of walks and Jessica Riedemann received one free pass.
