Hawks put the pieces together in 12-1 win over West Bend-Mallard
Hartley-Melvin-Sanborn knit together a complete game and it showed up on the scoreboard. The Hawks limited West Band-Mallard to one run and no hits while banging out 10 hits of their own in a 12-1 win in five innings June 22 at West Bend.
“The Hawks played a great game last night with NO errors,” exclaimed HMS head coach Stephanie Bronstad. “They came out hitting the ball and executing their defense. Gracie (Knobloch) pitched the whole game and did what she needed to do on the mound. The girls are playing with intensity to win and battling each inning to get it done.”
HMS got things cooking with a five-run first inning. The hot start included a bases-loaded double from Knobloch and run scoring singles from Elly Klein and Abby Kunzman. The latter two scored as did Jessica Riedemann, Darby Mastbergen and Morgan Grooters, running for Elle Mastbergen. In the second inning Taya Mason singled and scored.
The Hawks topped things off with six runs in the fifth. Knobloch stroked her second three-run double and Elle Mastbergen and Riedemann each knocked in a run with a single. Cadence Klein picked up an RBI on a sacrifice bunt. Knobloch scored in the inning as did Darby Mastbergen, Elly Klein, Meghan Larson, Mason and Grooters.
Finishing with two hits apiece against the Wolverines from the Twin Lakes Conference were Knobloch, Darby Mastbergen and Elly Klein. Hawks with one hit each were Riedemann, Mason, Kunzman and Elle Mastbergen.
In tossing the five-inning no-hitter, Knobloch walked eight batters and hit two but only permitted the one earned run in the fifth. She struck out three in the game.
