Jewel Hofman served as Parade Marshal for this year’s Railroad Days Parade, riding in the back seat with her younger brother Dirk. Up front are their parents, Jerry and Sara Hofman. Jewel was diagnosed with a rare form of bone cancer in April of 2020. In July of 2020 she had her lower leg amputated and she finished nine months of chemotherapy in Iowa City in January of this year. She continues to go back to Iowa City every three months for scans. Jewel hopes to return to Sanborn Christian School this fall. The support for her from the community can be seen in the form of the Team Jewel stickers in the Sanborn business windows. The Hofman family would like to thank the entire community for love and support shown to them during this time.
