Trinity Christian sweeps past Hawk netters
Hartley-Melvin-Sanborn got off to a slow start in its September 7 volleyball match with Trinity Christian. Although the Hawks showed signs of recovery in the second set, Trinity was able to pick up a 3-0 War Eagle Conference victory at Hull. The game scores were 25-4, 25-14 and 25-8.
The Tigers’ 32 kills nearly tripled the number recorded by HMS (12). Leading their charge was Avery Van Maanen with 11 kills. Jasmine Lux notched seven kills for the Hawks. Emily Mutombo was the assists leader with six.
HMS came up with 25 digs, led by the eight digs from both Abby Kunzman and Elise Haack. Kunzman, Mutombo, Lux and Kylee Schiphoff each registered a block assist.
The Hawks had serve success at an .880 clip. Mutombo, Lux, Otto and Haack were each 2-for-2 serving. In terms of ace serves, the Tigers out-performed HMS 14-0.
