Hartley-Melvin-Sanborn played host to seven teams in this year’s edition of the HMS Volleyball Tourney held September 25 at Hartley. Pool B consisted of Rock Valley, South O’Brien, Trinity Christian and Newell-Fonda. Newell-Fonda and Rock Valley emerged from pool play. HMS joined Okoboji, Gehlen Catholic and Sioux City West in Pool A. The Hawks suffered three losses as Gehlen and West moved on. Newell-Fonda then defeated West and Gehlen dispatched Rock Valley. In the championship match Gehlen topped Newell-Fonda.
HMS opened the day with a loss to Okoboji by identical 21-8 scores. Gehlen was next and the Hawks fell 21-6 and 21-4. Last up for the Hawks was West, with the Wolverines winning 21-10 and 21-6. With the results, HMS fell to 0-12 on the season.
Kaley Pearson, Abigail Kunzman and Jasmine Lux each had a total of three kills for the day. Pearson totaled seven set assists and turned in a 12-for-12 day serving with one ace. Elise Haack led in digs with 13 and also made a solo block.
