Class 1A Hartley-Melvin-Sanborn competed against athletes from a number of 2A and 3A schools at George-Little Rock/Central Lyon’s Cross Country Invitational October 7 at the Otter Valley Country Club near George.
The Hawks nearly finished with two runners among the top 25. Madison Otto turned in a solid 15th-place finish in the girls run while the boys competition saw George Vargas finish 26th.
In the team results, the HMS girls were seventh with a 193 total and the boys were eighth with a total of 188. The Sioux Center and Sibley-Ocheyedan girls tied at 44 with Sioux Center winning on criteria. The same 44 total for the Warrior boys left them behind Okoboji and its winning total of 34.
Individually for the Hawk girls Kamryn Ebel placed 44th, Gracie Knobloch 47th, Ashleigh Vermeer 49th and Juliana Pasillas 50th. Placing for the HMS boys were Bryce Dodge at 35th, Aiden Jensen at 40th, Aiden Bush at 43rd, Ryan Grotluschen at 44th, Damian Dodge at 47th and Blaine Finster at 48th.
The varsity and the JV ran together at this Invite. Gavin Faulkner competed at the JV level and finished 32nd.
