Chamber Chat
Happy Happy Fall y’all! This is Wendy Nelson filling in for one last time for this month’s chamber chat. Why is it your last time Wendy? Cause we are SOOOO excited to announce that Jen VanDam has accepted the Sanborn Chamber Director position!!!
Jen was born in Oregon and moved to Orange City, Iowa when she was 6. After graduating from Unity Christian she attended providence Christian College in Pasadena, CA. Jen helps her dad manage the newly re-modeled Bowl-Mor, whom is a chamber member and has been to several of our past chamber meetings and figured why not. She shared with me that in college she was part of a group that planned events & recruitment and she discovered she really enjoyed that type of stuff especially when it brings a community together. Sounds like she will be awesome at the director job! Welcome Jen…super glad to have you on the team!!
Looking ahead we have a couple of activities going on in town over the next couple of months I’d love to share with you.
First and foremost are the Halloween events! The annual business trick-or-treating will be on Friday October 29th from 3:30pm-5pm. Main street business will be offering Halloween treats to all the goblins, spiderman’s, puppy dogs and princesses that show up to trick-or-treat. The business’s participating will have a pumpkin in their front window, so you will know which businesses to stop at and as for the businesses not on main street…they will be set up in the community building ready to spoil everyone’s supper with even more treats & goodies. Unfortunately, with the current COVID restrictions Prairie View Campus will not be holding any trick-or-treating at their facilities, but they will have a booth at the community center.
The next Halloween events will be on Saturday October 30th. The Sanborn Parks & Rec will be hosting their trunk-or-treat out at Miller Park from 2pm-5pm and the town trick-or-treating will start at 5pm and go until dusk. Lots of opportunities to get some treats and maybe do a few tricks.
The second event I would like to mention is the annual Fall Festival. Scheduled for Saturday October 30th from 10am-2pm at VanderHaag’s Yesterday’s Museum the event is always a favorite of mine. We have a dozen vendors signed up to sell all their goodies and magical must-have’s along with the Mi’Ono ladies serving their delicious homemade goodness during the entire event. The Acai truck will also be on in the parking lot if you want to grab one of their bowls of happiness or take one on the way out.
The Chamber will once again be coordinating a “Turkey Trot” during the month of November. If you can remember in the past, we will place a large ad in the Sanborn Pioneer with coupons to several chamber members for the chance to win various prizes. Look out for more details to come in the paper the first week of November and get ready to turkey trot around the town!
Finally before I go…let’s talk Christmas time. Crazy to believe, but before you know it we will be flocking the trees and decking the halls for Christmas 2021. Mark your calendars for December 4th to visit Mr. & Mrs. Claus and partake in some awesome holiday events bound to get anyone excited for the holiday. More details to come, but to tease you let me drop a few hints…cookies and a horse drawn carriage.
Have a great week everyone and remember to shop local!
Wendy Nelson
