A fire a short distance west of the Sanborn city limits along the railroad right of way was started Saturday afternoon by the Milwaukee train. Due to the strong winds, the fire spread rapidly. The Sanborn Fire Department was called to extinguish the fire.
The Sanborn Fire Department was called to the John Van Wyke farm last Saturday about noon. Mr. Van Wyke was picking corn and the front of his tractor caught on fire. The tractor and picker were extensively damaged by the time the fire department arrived due to the dry conditions in the field.
Miss Cheryl Lynn Plathe and Rodney Buren were married on November 3 at Sanborn. They are living in the Guse Apartments.

For the first time in the history of the HMS school district, the football team has finished the regular season undefeated. The Hawks improved to 9-0 with a 47-0 victory over Rockwell City-Lytton on a cold November 1 evening at Hartley. The record included the championship in Class 1-A’s district accomplishments with a 7-0 district mark….HMS coach is Steve Waechter.
On October 25 a retirement party was held for Carolyn Buren at AMPI in Sanborn…She was presented a plaque for her 32 years of employment.
