Street sweeper brings advanced cleaning system to Sanborn

Citizens of Sanborn have likely noticed a different vehicle doing its part to make Sanborn a tidier place. The City of Sanborn recently purchased a 2010 Tymco 500x street sweeper. The International truck supports a regenerative air type sweeper powered by a 115 hp John Deere motor. The unit carries with it 39,100 miles and 4,250 hours. It replaces the previous mechanical broom sweeper.
Tymco’s Regenerative Air System uses a controlled blast of air to dislodge debris from the surface. All debris picked up by the full-width pick-up head is directed up the large diameter suction hose into the hopper. The air is cleaned by a dust separator and then returned to the blast orifice of the pick-up head in a closed loop cycle. Thus polluted air is kept from being exhausted into the atmosphere.
The sweeper includes a Broom Assist Head (BAH) which incorporates full-width air blast and suction and is designed to work with the Regenerative Air System to pick up a wide variety of street debris from light trash and leaves to heavy dirt and gravel. The BAH is controlled by the operator in the cab allowing broom-assisted sweeping only when needed because the majority of debris is removed by the Regenerative Air System. The 12” diameter by 79” long broom is mounted at the rear of the BAH and is fully enclosed for optimum dust control and to eliminate the risk of “throwing” debris outside the sweep path. The fast rotating BAH broom automatically applies as much pressure as needed to loosen heavy, packed-on debris and project it into the air blast for faster sweeping.
The 43” diameter circular gutter brooms remove debris from curbs, gutters and around obstacles along city streets such as parked cars and maintenance equipment.
The hopper has a capacity of over 5.7 cubic yards and a payload of over 6000 lbs. A high-efficiency centrifugal dust separator for maximum fine dust particulate separation provides dust control while using less water. A variable dump height from 2 feet to 11 feet allows dumping into various size and type containers. The large hopper door permits easy dumping and is hydraulically and mechanically locked for an air and watertight seal. The hydraulic functions are also powered by the John Deere auxiliary engine.
