Fran Peelen surprised her husband Larry for his 87th birthday. Larry and Fran drove to Cedar Rapids for a Jim McDonough Christmas concert held in Jim’s home. The first part of the concert consisted of Christmas hymns and Christmas Carols played on his baby grand piano. Intermission was hosted by Jim himself. Jim served sparkly wine or bubbly cider as well as coffee while asking if we had a special request of Christmas Carols. Fran requested Happy Birthday be sung to her husband Larry. Jim also had a buffet of fruit-cheese skewers, assorted cheese cake, candied pecans and salted almonds. The second half of the concert Jim played the Christmas Carols that had been requested. Larry was pleasantly surprised when everyone sang happy birthday to him. On the way to the concert Krystal Ness contacted Fran asking her and Larry to attend the Christmas program held at Grace Methodist Church in Story City on Sunday morning. Fran and Larry’s great grandchildren Isabelle, Olivia and Owen were in the program. Isabelle sang a solo and did some reading, Olivia was an angel, and Owen was Joseph. The Peelens reported that the program was very inspiring and the children did a great job. Larry and Fran then accompanied the Nesses to brunch held in the fellowship hall. The Peelens then spent some time out at Happy Ness Acres viewing all the projects the Nesses had done especially the new goat barn. They had built the rafters themselves. They are a busy family, all three of the children are playing basketball so Saturday is a busy day. The family plus aunt Chelsea had baked and decorated lots of cookies Saturday night. Larry and Fran returned home Sunday afternoon with a plate full of the goodies.
