C…c…c…c…cold!
The time and temp message sign at Iowa State Bank’s Sanborn location told us Monday morning what we already knew. It was cold! The storms that plagued the south and east opened the door for arctic air to descend over the Great Plains. The official overnight low Sunday into Monday in Sanborn was 21 degrees below zero. Cherokee reported a low of minus 27. Wind chill warnings were issued and schools in-turn issued late-start notices for Monday and many ended up closing for the day due to the frigid temps. Normal high temperatures for mid February are solidly in the 20s…and that’s above zero. The bright spot was the lack of gusty winds that would have increased the wind chill danger even more. Another bright spot is the forecast which calls for warmer temperatures.
