Summer makes a last appearance with triple-digit temps
On Tuesday, September 20 fall was only a few days away but you’d never know by the heat wave that affected the region. Temperatures exceeded 100 degrees near Akron, where a reading of 102 was recorded, and also in Spencer, where the high was 101. The National Weather Service office in the Des Moines metro area reported that a triple-digit temperature had not been recorded on a September 20th anywhere in Iowa for 69 years.
The high temperature in Sanborn on the 20th was 98 degrees. The low in Sanborn dipped to 42 degrees on the 21st.
