HMS School Funding Secured
Voters living in the Hartley-Melvin-Sanborn School District had the opportunity on Tuesday September 13 to cast their vote for or against an up to $1.34 per $1000 valuation levy. The voter approved Plant, Property or Equipment Levy, PPEL, can assist the district in acquiring, maintaining or improving buildings, grounds, technology and equipment for 10 years and approved by the board annually. The ballot measure also asked voters to approve an income surtax on individual income of each individual resident in the district.
The measure was canvassed by each County Board of Supervisors within the district on Tuesday September 20. O’Brien County is the controlling county and therefore the measure went through a second tier canvass. Each county canvassed their results and reported them to O’Brien. Following receipt of each county’s results O’Brien County Supervisors approved the final numbers for the HMS district on Tuesday September 27. The PPEL measure passed 116 YES to 69 NO.
