Falcon offense hums in win over Hawk boys
West Sioux’s offense kept the pressure on Hartley-Melvin-Sanborn all night. In the end the Falcons came away with a 78-49 War Eagle Conference win January 20 at Hartley. With the loss HMS fell to 3-3 in the conference and 7-5 in all games.
The visitors shot 48 percent with 26 baskets in 54 tries. From three-point range alone West Sioux was 10-of-28. The Falcons also went 16-for-20 at the free throw line. They were led by Mason Coppock, who scored 28 points, and Booker Walsh, who tallied 24.
The Hawks were 17-of-56 from the floor for 30 percent. Just one of their 21 attempts from beyond the arc hit the mark. HMS was 14-of-25 at the charity stripe.
Lance Berends produced for the home team with 28 points, 17 rebounds and three blocks. Kooper Ebel finished with nine points, 10 rebounds and three assists. Keevyn Jacobsma added four points and nine boards. Lucas Kroese scored three points, Trenton Vollink and Ethan Huberg tallied two points apiece and Travis Kamradt hit a free throw for one point. Landen Elwood grabbed four rebounds and Tyson Tessum made two steals.
HMS did win the rebound battle 48-25. The Hawks committed 13 turnovers compared to seven for West Sioux.
