Hawk girls drop road game at Harris-Lake Park
Payton Reimers’ 29 points led Harris-Lake Park to a 64-45 win over Hartley-Melvin-Sanborn January 31 at Lake Park. The Wolves built on their lead through first three quarters before the teams played more evenly in the final frame.
“We came out a little flat and things just didn’t quite click together like we’d hoped,” commented HMS head coach Jenni Van Otterloo. “We did however, play better defense to end the game, holding them to only 10 points in the fourth quarter.”
The Hawks got 13 points from Kylee Schiphoff, nine from Emily Mutombo, eight from Moriah Otto, five from Gracie Knobloch, three from both Elise Haack and Frankie Mohni and two each from Abby Douma and Lindsey Van Es.
HMS converted 16 of its 58 shots for 28 percent. Assists led to 12 of those baskets. The dimes came from Mutombo (five), Mohni (three), Haack and Otto (two apiece). The Hawks were 6-of-21 from beyond the arc and 7-of-16 at the foul line. Harris-Lake Park’s 38 percent shooting was the result of 23 hoops in 61 attempts. Included in that were four three-point baskets in 10 tries. The Wolves shot a whopping 32 free throws and made 14.
The final stats showed HMS with 40 boards and a 10 rebound edge over the host team. Moriah Otto came down with 12 rebounds while Schiphoff, Douma and Mohni each grabbed six. Knobloch added five boards, Mutombo four and Haack one. Douma and Otto each blocked a shot.
There were 10 Hawk steals with Mutombo swiping the ball three times, Schiphoff, Otto and Knobloch each accounting for three thefts and Haack taking the ball away once. Harris-Lake Park turned the ball over 14 times. The visitors were guilty of 20 turnovers.
